Being 15, something I got a lot was, "you have so much time", "you should enjoy life." So I did what I enjoyed most, RESEARCH.
It started as a small idea on the eve of my 15th birthday. Just notes, reflections, and half-baked thoughts. Two years later, I'm almost done, having met 20+ well-known founders, learnt so much throughout the journey and more sleepless nights than I'd like to admit.
Maybe I should introduce myself.
My name is Medhansh Seth, I'm a 17-year-old high school student, 4-time speedcubing state champ, and founder of a platform called AceCubing. Over the last few years, I've devoted a good chunk of my time mentoring 600+ children, interned at companies in India and Singapore, along with writing the book i was just talking about.
I don't say this to flex, but to give context, I'm a student figuring out a lot of things in real time, which made this journey all the more enjoyable.
OH MY GOD
Just so you know, if i knew how hard this was going to be, I NEVER WOULD HAVE DONE IT. Okay, maybe that's a lie. With having to wake up at 4am and writing before school, to missing out on crucial reel scrolling time, this process helped me grow as a person more than anything else could have.
So here are some things i learnt:
Good things take time, it's never easy.
Waiting for inspiration and motivation is a scam, it will take time but, its worth it.
Research is a cheat code
As a 17 year old, i had not a lot to give, so i made research my superpower, talking to founders, sharing their stories, pulling quotes, sharing case studies. All of that should give me some credability beyond my age.
Writing is more about deleting
I thought i was writing a book, turns out, i was mostly editing one. Cutting sentences i loved but didnt need. Killing fluff, making sure every page is worth it.
I realised human potential
This journey helped me realise what a driven person can do. Also how one project can consume you. It has good and bad parts with super creative and productive days and also sleepless nights due to writers block.
Writing a book at 17 is not about being a teen prodigy, it's about doing something i love, it's about contacting my type of people. Founders.
If you're young and ambitious, i beg you, please start something, take on a challenge and don't stop till you get it. Because once you reach the end, you will realise that it's not about the destination but the journey.
